Welcome to LifeCare

Do I need a referral?

As of Nov. 1, 2010 it is strongly recommended that our patients obtain a medical referral from a GP prior to seeing a LifeCare Sport & Exercise Medicine Physician. This will ensure that patients receive the maximum relevant Medicare rebate available. Should patients be unable to supply a GP medical referral they are still able to see our SEMs with the Medicare rebate being slightly reduced.

You do not need a medical referral to see one of our Allied Health Professionals.

Does Medicare cover LifeCare services?

Traditionally Medicare has not covered allied health services including physiotherapy, podiatry, psychology, etc.  However the recently introduced Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) scheme now allows doctors to approve up to 5 allied health services per year on referral.  Please discuss the EPC scheme with a LifeCare allied health practitioner or your treating doctor. Medicare does contribute for fees for consultations with Sports Physicians.

Does private health insurance cover my treatment?

This will depend on your policy. Most policies with ancillary or extras cover will provide a rebate for LifeCare services.

What are the terms for payment and cancellation?

Payment is required at the time of the consultation in the form of cash, cheque or credit card (check the payment methods accepted at your LifeCare centre). If you need to cancel your appointment, It is requested that you provide adequate notice (at least 48 hours if possible). Please check the appointment cancellation policy at your centre, and whether fees apply for late cancellation.

How long does an appointment take?

This varies case-by-case and depends on the services you are receiving. Please enquire about consultations at your nearest LifeCare centre.

What do I bring to my appointment?

Please bring any referral letters and relevant test results such as x-rays.

What should I wear?

This will depend on the type of treatment you are receiving. Generally we recommend loose, comfortable clothing that will not restrict movement. Please confirm the required attire with the practitioner before your appointment.
